3.5 stars — I still loved the nerdiness of this one, but I really noticed the lack of depth in this story. I get that there isn’t a lot of time to get into things in these short formats, but then I guess I wish that the back stories weren’t screaming out for depth…because then I just leave feeling unsatisfied. Most of this comes into play with Chloe. So I’ll get to her in a minute. Grant was everything I was hoping for from the hints of his character in the first book. He was adorable, and I pretty much loved him. His story was a bit more on the surface…I think because I enjoyed him so much, I almost wish we could have learned a bit more about his past, but I was more willing to accept his lack of depth in this one. He was seriously like a puppy dog, just so sweet and lovable. I loved how persistent he was with Chloe, how once he figured out that this relationship and his feelings were different, he didn’t shy away from them. I also enjoyed his very bizarre and sometimes hilarious relationship with his daughter…it was sweet, if occasionally hard to believe. Perhaps that’s where I would have wanted to know more if this had been a longer novel.
Chloe was a bit more of a struggle. I felt for her shyness, but honestly? The whole introvertedness felt kind of…like a schtick. A bit stereotype-ish, like perhaps the author isn’t an introvert and doesn’t quite understand it, so just followed what a lot of those articles talk about. Now that could be just me, I might be totally off the mark there, it just felt…shallow? Clinical? Something. Or else I’m just particularly sensitive to it. And honestly it just didn’t feel like we got a lot of time with Chloe to really figure out why she was so freaking hard on herself. Like, we’re told why (what with the whole survivor’s guilt thing), but I just didn’t *feel* it if that makes sense. It was just too big and deep of a side story for this short of a novel. And then holy cow, her turnaround at the end was super abrupt and rushed!! She resisted and resisted and resisted, and then all of a sudden BAM, change. It just didn’t work for me.
I did love Grant and Chloe together, they had great sexual chemistry, and it was fun to explore role play kink, as I don’t think that’s as common in the books I’ve read. And even though I didn’t believe Chloe’s turnaround, I really loved what happened with their relationship after that. So, like, if I just accepted that, then I felt all of their emotions when they reached out to each other. It was very affecting.
So yeah. I adored the playfulness of Grant and what he brought out of Chloe…I just felt like it tackled too much and then there wasn’t enough time to give the subjects appropriate attention.

Wow, this book was delicious and Grant totally lived up to my expectations from book 1. I knew he was going to be drop dead sexy, but he also turned out to be charming, sweet, caring, loving, and all the things swoon-worthy! Chloe was adorable and I can totally relate to her identity crisis and search for finding herself. It took me till 19% into the book to connect the dots and figure out who Chloe was, I completely blame my lust for Grant on this oversight.
Now lets talk about the story line, it was filled with tantalizingly sexy moments and artfully balanced with building relationships and communication. I loved see how all the secondary characters chip in to help raise Sydney, Grant's daughter. I had so many warm and fuzzy feelings about Sydney's relationships with these men and I love how it paints single fathers in a caring and nurturing light, something that I rarely see in novels.
I also loved seeing Grant and Chloe each growing as characters throughout the story. Grant went from selfish to self-less and Chloe really learned how to speak up, stand up for herself, and face her demons. Together they gave me all the feels, even if at moments Chloe had me wanting to throw my across the room. I am also still in love with the coder/gaming girl theme...STEM for the win!
Oh man, Megan has a knack for beautiful book covers. I LOVED the cover. I started this series with a lot of expectations, I've written my review for the first book accordingly. Going forward I read with a neutral eye. I was heavily bookhungover by Santino's latest release and needed a pick me up. I made the right decision.
Good things This story has so many good things happening for it. Man, the characters are beautiful. They're layered. They're imperfect. They do stupid things but are also really sweet. I love that they met under the guise of a purely physical relationship but then they couldn't help themselves. And isn't that what love is. You just can't help yourself. And you have to make that choice of whether you want to fight for it or not. This book was well-paced and well-written and a total treat after the first book because it dealt with a lot more emotion and it doesn't hurt that it was hot, holy yum.
Not-so-good-things I can't think of any. I loved everything about this book.
1. My favourite scene I have many! Lavender lingerie being one. Sydney and Chloe being another. And that scene when she removes her costume and says hi as herself. Beautful!
2. Favourite character Sydney! I loved that kid.
3. Ending I loved it! A year felt like a good amount of time for them to think about spending their life together. I was really happy to see them so happy.
4. Backstory of character Ethan and his parents, I wanna know what on earth is that about.
5. Excited for more Yes actually. I really wanna know about Ethan.
6. Couldn't stop reading scene All the hot scenes, ALL OF THEM!
7. Content warnings Role play, spanking, generally super hot.
This book gets a 5.0 rating from me.
All my love,
sri
