One Lucky Vampire An Argeneau Novel Argeneau Vampire Lynsay Sands Books

When I first picked up an Argeneau novel many, many moons ago, I fell in love with this series. In fact, this was the first series of books I bought when I got my first Kindle and I have been avidly awaiting each new release, pre-ordering them months in advance, just to make sure I would get the next book as soon as it was released and often getting up early to start reading as soon as the download is complete. I have to say that I am really glad I did that with this book.

This is the 19th book in the Argeneau Series if you include the Rogue Hunters into it, and of course I do. So, there is a formula to these stories that is generally accepted. The characters have instant attraction, fall into bed almost immediately and begin a Happily Ever After in less than a week, but lets be honest, would you really want it any other way?!?! This story is mostly this formulated story that we've come to love, but there were some exciting new aspects to this story that I wasn't expecting. The whole story has you thinking one thing, then BAM!! All of a sudden you realize you were wrong and you have to rethink half the story. It was such an interesting plot development.

I am also thrilled that the laughter was back in this story. I loved the first few books so much because there were so many times that I would laugh out loud while I was reading and I have missed that from the last couple of books. I'm glad that has returned. I know more than one person looked at me strangely while I was laughing hysterically in the lounge on campus while I was reading. Also, there are a lot of old characters back in this book, most are briefly mentioned but it was good to see some old friends.

The absolute best part of this book is Stephano/Jake. He never wanted to be a "vampire" and now that he was turned against his will, he doesn't handle it well. He leaves his family and runs away, changing his name so he doesn't have to deal with them. He hates being a monster and doesn't want anything to do with the people who made him this way. He is so angry and upset that he doesn't deal with anything and when we first meet back up with him in this book, it's seven years since he was turned into an immortal and he has started his life over as a security guard. It is fascinating to watch him come to terms with who he is and see him learning to accept himself through teaching Nicole about being his life mate. More than anything else, Lynsay Sands has made an incredibly relate-able character. He is someone who hates himself and only learns to like himself while he falls in love with Nicole. I also really loved watching Nicole blossom into a strong woman during the course of the book. As a person who was used badly by her almost ex-husband Nicole's confidence in herself is shot. You feel how beat down she is right from the start and feel bad for having to deal with her creep of an ex-husband. It was wonderful to watch her to build up self-confidence and become a strong woman who could be a life mate without feeling threatened.

I have always loved books that take me on a journey and this one truly does that. If you enjoy this book just half as much as I do, you'll absolutely love it.

One Lucky Vampire An Argeneau Novel Argeneau Vampire Lynsay Sands Books Reviews

I must admit that while I have read and enjoyed pretty much every book in this series, the last few have not been as enjoyable as the first 6-7 were (The Accidental Vampire (Argeneau Vampire) being my favorite) but this one seems to be going back to those earlier novels in theme and humor. The romance plays a bigger part and the humor is back.

Jake and Nicole are a good pair and the fact that he has to play cook/housekeeper while trying to be a bodyguard added to the whole story and the ending surprised me, she did an excellent job of making you try to figure out the "whodunnit" part of this novel.

I gave it 4 Stars for entertainment value but it was not as funny as the earlier romantic ones nor as exciting as the Rouge Hunter novels but it still kept your attention and was a really good story.
A middle of the road story, for me. Every now and then I read a Sands story, have done for years and years (and years). Some are great, interesting. This one didn't hold me. Not all that much happening. A couple of dramatic bits.
The hero and heroine were your basic main characters, not out of the ordinary. She's unaware someone wants to kill her, he's sent in as a surreptitious bodyguard. Even though a reviewer said something like the story had the usual humour, I didn't find it so. Writing by numbers came to mind. I guess it must be hard for a writer to continue writing a series where there are strict rules and conventions to continually follow in her made-up world.
Jake Colson aka Stephano Notte is a bodyguard but he hasn't always been one; before that & 7 years ago he was the daytime V.P. for V. A., Inc & was mortal. He worked for Vincent Argeneau but he was almost killed & then turned immortal & he also wasn't to happy that he was turned so, he decided that he needed to do something different with his life & he was also running away from his family & the people that okayed his turning knowing that he hadn't wanted to be turned.

Nicole is going thru a frustrating divorce & her BFF thinks that Nicole's soon to be ex-husband is out to get her & so, in comes Marguerite the Matchmaker as she hires Jake to pretend to be Nicole's new cook/housekeeper. She tells Jake that Nicole's soon to be ex-husband is trying to kill her & she gets Nicole to believe that she needs a cook/housekeeper all the while she's playing matchmaker.

That's how they get together. There are many attempts of causing deaths in this book but, none of them were successful, there are also many immortals, lots of sex scenes & in the end you will find out that Nicole wasn't the original target but Jake was.

This book was very good & I will be reading the next book in this series later today. Oh, & I read this book in 1 day too.
