This book will take you on a wild ride. This is the third installment of the Spice Shop Mysteries, set at Pike Place Market. The reasons I love this series are all present in this installment, Pepper, her shop, her friends and her employees. I always enjoy the rich details of food, spice, the Market experience and relationships. While each story gives us more details and background this volume explodes with family, friends, and mystery present and past. Is this whole mystery set up by Pepper's Mom's unexpected visit or is it just a coincidence? What part does Kristin and her family's redo of the old Grace House community house play in it all? What does the "woman potter" from the past know that Pepper's Mom won't share? When murder happens is it about past or present? I found this to be a very fast paced ride, maybe not as much time on background things I enjoy, but you really want to know what happened so the book is hard to put down. I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.Tags : Killing Thyme (A Spice Shop Mystery) [Leslie Budewitz] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <b>In Seattle’s Pike Place Market, Spice Shop owner Pepper Reece is savoring her business success,Leslie Budewitz,Killing Thyme (A Spice Shop Mystery),Berkley,0425271803,Mystery & Detective - Amateur Sleuth,Mystery & Detective - Cozy,Mystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,Murder;Investigation;Fiction.,Spices;Fiction.,Women merchants;Fiction.,AMERICAN MYSTERY & SUSPENSE FICTION,FICTION Mystery & Detective Amateur Sleuth,FICTION Mystery & Detective Cozy General,FICTION Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,Fiction,Fiction - Mystery Detective,Fiction-Mystery & Detective,FictionMystery & Detective - Amateur Sleuth,FictionMystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,General Adult,MASS MARKET,Monograph Series, any,MysterySuspense, cozy mystery;cozy mysteries;cozy mystery books;cozy mystery series;culinary cozy mysteries;mystery;mystery books;mystery thriller suspense;cozy mysteries women sleuths series;small business;Seattle;Washington;Pacific northwest;Pike Place Market;murder;crime;crime fiction;amateur sleuths;Spice Shop mystery series;cozy;crime books;murder mystery books;women sleuths;mystery and thrillers;detective novels;mystery and suspense;police;mystery novels;mysteries and thrillers;fiction;novels;mysteries, cozy mystery; cozy mysteries; cozy mystery books; cozy mystery series; culinary cozy mysteries; mystery; mystery books; mystery thriller suspense; cozy mysteries women sleuths series; small business; Seattle; Washington; Pacific northwest; Pike Place Market; murder; crime; crime fiction; amateur sleuths; Spice Shop mysteries; Spice Shop mystery series; crime books; murder mystery books; women sleuths; mystery and thrillers; detective novels; mystery and suspense; mystery novels; mysteries and thrillers; fiction

Killing Thyme is a great whodunit and the third in the series. Pepper Reese, spice shop owner and occasional sleuth, is back in this third installment in a great mystery series. In this book it's all about a cold case, which is a great concept for cozy mystery, where the amateur is the investigator. A local potter and new tenant to the marketplace is murdered. it turns out to be an old friend of the family that hasn't been seen in 30 years. The rest of it is it's an interesting and entertaining plot for a cozy mystery. I enjoyed this book it would recommend it to other mystery readers. The characters are great, the setting is basically a city within a city, it's very interesting to see how the author uses a real place and City in such a fictionalized way. If you also enjoy a mystery that doesn't have a lot of grit and gore, this is definitely a mystery you should check out, it still provides a puzzle to solve and a plot that holds your interest.
Killing Thyme proved to be just as entertaining and engaging as the two previous books in the series. The Spice Shop Mystery series tops my all time favorite cozy mysteries. The writing is exquisite, the characters believable and as diverse as the setting, the whodunnit is always a bit of a surprise, and, wonderfully, it is set in Seattle, my favorite city. In the course of the book, the author takes the reader throughout Seattle, its sights, sounds, smells, and character. Each time I picked up the book, I felt I was right there in the story with the main character Pepper, experiencing Seattle on every page. To top off my love of these books, the facts about spices sprinkled throughout fascinated me, and I am looking forward to trying the recipes at the end of each book. I intend to read this series over and over again - something I almost never do.
I enjoy reading. I would love to be a proof reader for this author as well as a number of my other favorite authors. (Just dawned on me - I do consider this author a favorite.) That way I would get their new books sooner. I enjoy the Spice Shop Mysteries for several reasons. They are well written. The plots are believable, the characters sound real, the story flows smoothly. Whoever does the proofreading does an excellent job. I don't find myself stumbling over incorrect usages of word forms, interrupting the flow of the story. I have new recipes to try out &have learned more about spices. They take place in Seattle. They are Good reading. Read them & enjoy.
Pepper owns a spice shop. Her mother has just returned from Costa Rica for a visit and she and Pepper are on their way to return some pottery to a potter at the market when Pepper's mother surprises her by saying to the woman, "I thought you were dead." Pepper is intrigued and appalled by her mother's statement. She becomes even more annoyed as her mother refuses to discuss the situation.
The next morning the potter is found dead in her studio. Pepper wants to know who killed her but is afraid that it may somehow link back to her family and her friend's family and how they lived together growing up.
This was a well plotted mystery with enough quirky characters to keep things lively. There are some yummy sounding recipes in the back for dishes that were talked about in the book. If you like cozy mysteries, this one may be for you.
